Perrysburg is a desirable area with numerous recognitions for "Best Place to Raise a Family" and "Best Suburban Downtown." It was founded in 1816 and it's the second-largest city in Wood County. Perrysburg is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, an American naval commander who defeated the British during the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie.
The area played a vital role in the War of 1812. Fort Meigs was built in 1813 and the fortification allowed US troops to claim victory in two sieges. The Ohio History Connection began reconstructing Fort Meigs in the 1960s and uncovered archaeological artifacts that provided significant insight into early US military life. The fort remains open for tours and historical events.
